Robber’s Cave Campout Details

Good Evening Troop!

Here are the details of this weekend’s Backpacking Trip.

FOOD

Each Scout needs to provide their own backpacking food. Knorr’s rice packets and tuna/chicken packets (or Beef Jerky) are great inexpensive alternatives to the pre-packaged backpacking meals. 2 weeks ago we tried a variety of flavors. Use Freezer bags (they are thicker than normal Ziploc’s) to repackage the rice to save weight and not have to clean a pot.

Breakfast could be instant oatmeal, granola/cliff bars, etc. Lunch and Dinner should use a cookpot. 3-4 snacks of granola bars, trail mix, jerky, etc will be plenty.

They will need to plan for Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast, Lunch and snacks/trail food.

I HIGHLY recommend packing some type of squirt water flavoring, like a Mio. We are filtering water!

Water Filters – If your scout has one, they need to bring it. Don’t bring a Lifestraw, they will not be of any use…

Departure and Pickup Times

Please have your scout to the church by 7 AM on Saturday morning, fully packed. A few scouts indicated they wanted to use a Troop Tent, but neglected to pick one up! Be sure they leave enough space in their pack for the Tent!

Pick up will be later than normal, around 8 PM time on Sunday.

Treks

The longer trip will be 100% backpacking (11-14 miles). They will hike 1/2 on Saturday upon arrival and the other half on Sunday before leaving. They have the gear and food that  is on their backs.

The shorter trip will setup tents at the base camp (Redbud Circle) then backpack the Robber’s cave trail and surrounding trails for the day (3-5 miles between both days). They will return to Basecamp for the night. These guys don’t have to pack their own backpacking tent as they can use a Troop Tent for Basecamp.

Gear

If your scout is lacking any gear, please let us know ASAP so we can ensure it is ready for them on Saturday.
