Spring Break Camping Trip This Weekend!!!!
2025 Spring Break Camp will be at Brushy Creek Campground at Lake O’ the Pines
Saturday, March 15th through Monday, March 17th
Brushy Creek Campground is situated along the banks of Lake O’ the Pines in the Ark-La-Tex portion of the Pineywoods of east Texas near the states of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Lake O’ the Pines includes about 18,700 acres of water and 9,000 acres of land, encompassing an area so large it spans five counties. Boating, fishing, water sports, and wildlife viewing are all popular pastimes at the campground. Lake O’ the Pines fishing includes largemouth, spotted, and white bass along with crappie, catfish, and sunfish. In addition to boat fishing there are areas for bank fishing along the shore and below the dam along Big Cypress Bayou. Birdwatchers are also encouraged to bring their binoculars as numerous resident and migratory bird species inhabit the area. Bald eagle sightings are a common occurrence in fall and winter, and they are occasionally sighted in spring and summer. The nearby towns of Jefferson and Marshall offer plenty of historic and tourist attractions, and Texas Wildflower Trail routes are located along the roads surrounding the lake.

From Jefferson, TX, travel 3.8 miles northwest on Highway 49. Turn left onto FM 729 and continue for approximately 3.5 miles, then turn left again onto FM 726. Travel 5.0 miles, turn right at the stop sign and follow signs to the park entrance.
You MUST use local wood for firewood. Please wait to purchase wood until you are within 50 miles of the park.

I am so excited to spend Spring Break with everyone! Campsite assignments will be provided via personal email.
There will be activities like fishing and hiking for all to enjoy as well as nearby towns of Jefferson and Marshall that offer plenty of historic and tourist attractions, and Texas Wildflower Trail routes are located along the roads surrounding the lake. Also, Pack 359 will be doing a community service project on Sunday with the Forest Rangers for an an hour or two at most. This is an amazing opportunity for our Cub Scouts to work with each other and alongside community leaders on how to better the places we roam and explore and in turn grow themselves in the process. **Time to be determined**
Our own Jessica Josey will be with us as our Fishing Instructor and help facilitate this activity for our pack. All fishing gear will be provided; however, if you bring your own fishing poles, please be so kind as to take off the hooks. We will be utilizing barb-less hooks for our activity.
**Those who want to fish, MUST BRING OWN EYE PROTECTION (eyeglasses, sunglasses, or any eye-wear will do…cover the eyeballs) AND HAT TO WEAR FOR SAFETY.**
If you are needing gear (extra tent, sleeping bag, cooking stove, etc.), please let your Den Leaders, Mr. Jason Beaton, or myself know so we may bring it to you this weekend.
MEDICAL/SAFETY BRIEF
Please ensure your health forms are turned in and your Youth Protection Training certificate (YPT) for parents/guardians is up-to-date. If any changes, please bring an updated copy to the camp-out.
Weather is sunny most of the weekend so DO NOT FORGET SUN PROTECTION!! (Spare socks and shoes won’t hurt either.) See attachment for weekend’s weather forecast.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let your Den leaders know as soon as possible so we may be able to assist before the weekend.
